Fire watch services in San Diego: local requirements and logbook
Construction and demolition: San Diego Fire-Rescue’s A-7 bulletin describes nonworking-hour fire watch for qualifying construction, including buildings over 40 feet and new multistory construction exceeding 50,000 square feet per story, or when directed by the fire official. Its March 2025 revision calls for constant patrol, approved communication and personnel trained to use portable extinguishers.
The construction fire-watch log records duty periods, each site patrol and each entry into a structure, and must be available for review. These are construction-specific instructions. For an alarm or sprinkler outage at an occupied property, ask Fire-Rescue for the applicable impairment procedure, accepted log, patrol schedule and release instructions. Confirm current requirements before arranging service.
